Coffee is believed to have been discovered in Ethiopia in the 9th century. According to legend, a goat herder named Kaldi noticed that his goats became more energetic after eating the red berries from a certain tree. Curious, Kaldi tried the berries himself and experienced a similar boost in energy. The knowledge of these energizing berries spread to the Arabian Peninsula, where coffee cultivation and trade began.
By the 15th century, coffee had reached the Middle East, and by the 17th century, it had made its way to Europe and beyond, becoming one of the world's most popular beverages.
